Janice Dickinson Project
12.29.05 (2:14 pm)   [edit]

You all must have watched Janice Dickinson - the self-proclaimed supermodel, and of course, a plastic surgery addict - on "America’s Next Top Model."  Well, after Tyra Banks threw her off the program, she is fighting back by launching her very own reality television program.  Seeking an untraditional and unique look, Dickinson auditions over 500 aspiring models.  Drawing on her years of experience in the industry, Dickinson mentors candidates on look, style and composure, even taking their photos personally. Finally, she narrows the search to five models who become the first to be signed by her agency.

She is starting her own Hollywood modeling agency and it will be on television for us to watch. Entitled The Janice Dickinson Project (Working Title), will document Dickinson’s life as she tackles the grueling work of starting her own business and teaching a new generation of aspiring models the business from the ground up.

According to Oxygen TV, viewers will watch as Dickinson juggles motherhood, champions her new models, and tries to run a profitable agency -- all while dealing with skepticism from the industry she helped to define. The show goes beyond Dickinson’s runway persona to show a woman on the verge of a new phase in her career and determined to redefine American beauty.

“We love Janice because she’s the quintessential Oxygen personality.  She’s outrageous, in command and bigger than life.  And there's nothing one note about her.  She's a real person with dimension to her character.  In this series we see a warm side of her with heart.  We also see that she’s a true expert in her field,” says Debby Beece, Oxygen President of Programming. “She’s starting a new business with all its challenges, while trying to be a good mom and guide new models through a tough business. It’s a balancing act for her – and it’s fascinating to watch her as she goes through it."

Scientists who fake and harm us
12.15.05 (9:50 am)   [edit]

So I was quite excited about stem cell research in South Korea, but it turns out that it was all faked by Dr Hwang Woo-suk.  This news come on the heels of another news that Merck scientists did not report an accurate number of deaths from Vioxx when they published their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine.

According to my understanding, while no harm has been done from stem cell research, an estimated 60,000 deaths are attributed to Vioxx

I don't claim to never lie and admit to harmless lies, like how many girlfriends I have had or telling a woman how hot she looks when she might just look average.  But when it comes to life and death issues I think people should tell only 100% truth.

I will never watch TV on a cell phone
12.12.05 (8:26 am)   [edit]

So Sprint is launching a service that allows us to download and watch movies, concerts, and television programs on our cell phones.  No matter how much glued I may be to my cell phone, I do not envision watching a movie on it.  Indeed, I can envision watching a short clip on latest weather update if a snowstorm is coming or even take a look at another clip on big news in the world of business or politics or sports, but for that kind of programs I like my television.

While I am fully convinced that bandwidth improvements will redefine media consumption, I am yet to watch a DVD even on my 19 inch computer monitor.

In other words, there are better solutions for entertaining myself when I am at home or away from home.  I don't even think that I will watch a lot of video on iPod.  I guess to entice people to watch full length video, companies need to come up with products like PocketDish.

Bandwidth defines media consumption
12.08.05 (8:28 am)   [edit]

Those of us who are old enough to be on the web during its early days know that we used to measure bandwitdh in kbps.  In fact, I remember the delight when we switched to 56K.  And DSL was heavenly.  And as anyone will agree, the higher the bandwidth the more exciting the web has become.

In my opinion the day we can get television quality on a PC or mobile device, we will be in another era.  While I do not expect that we will watch much TV on a desk in the office or do a lot of surfing on a TV in the living room, the option will be great.

So it is great news that Cingular is launching a 3G network.  When coupled with a compatible device and service plan, the service provides average mobile data connections between 400-700 Kbps on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second.

It is not cheap (yet) and not available to everyone but it is an exciting development.

Yahoo search problems widespread
12.02.05 (8:07 am)   [edit]

So I wanted to believe that I was the only one dealing with Yahoo's pathetic search results.  It seems that Yahoo doesn't discriminate.  It is bad for everyone.

Podcaster Eric Marcus is suffering at the hands of Yahoo because the search engine has become an accomplice in hijacking of podcasts.  Have you noticed how much spam you see in Yahoo search results?  It looks as if the search engine itself has been hijacked by crooks.

Yahoo continues to be a bad search engine
12.01.05 (10:17 am)   [edit]

As a webmaster, I focus most of time in making sure that the portfolio of websites that I manage do well in search engines.  Like most smart webmasters, I put almost all of my efforts in targeting Google.  And MSN just works out well on its own then.

The problem is Yahoo which never got search right.  Now if you search for BeautyNova on Yahoo, you never reach the BeautyNova Home Page or BeautyNova Blog (two most popular pages).  Instead you see the first page as the privacy policy.

What's wrong with these idiots at Yahoo?
