| By my very nature, I am finacially very conservative. In other words, I always pay my bills on time and I do not recall if I ever carried balance on my credit card or paid a penalty for missing a payment. So I keep a lot of money in the bank so that I will have it when I need it. But according to advice from long-time financial planners at the Consumer Reports, three months gross salary should be a good starting point, depending on the availability of life insurance, if there's a working spouse, amount of debt, and easy access to credit. If it isn't enough, only then consumers should try emergency cash options. |
