I once met a physical trainer, who talked about becoming a 'better butter burner" by increasing muscle mass. The only way to go. Sounds though, as if you've got your system down! I wouldn't worry about the plateau if I were you (I *wish* I were you in this regard!) Ultimately the lifestyle change is the key, otherwise weight just returns and accompanied by discouragement ... Good luck with it! posted by: drforbush (reply) post date: 11.20.06 (1:24 pm) My story goes in stages, like I expect most stories go. I didn't really admit to myself that I had a weight problem until I had already lost quite a bit of weight. This is because I put on about 50 pounds over about twenty years. I started to feel slightly unhealthy, so I thought that I might try to reduce my weight. So, I stopped eating any lunch at all. I wasn't really hungry, so it didn't matter much. I did this for some time, and I would guess that my weight stayed the same. Some time after that our family decided to go visit a National Park were we did some hiking. I realized that I was really out of shape, and I decided that I should try to excercise some. I started to walk about two miles every morning, except on days when the weather was nasty. And, I didn't notice any significant change. My wife entered a few jogging races, and I went with her and I walked the shorter course with the kids. I was still out of shape, but I tried to get the kids to walk faster or even run a bit. After a few of these races I actually tried to run more and walk less. In the mean time my wife started cooking healthier food. And, I joined a health club with a pool and started to swim laps. After a few months I realized that my clothes were actually falling off of me. I needed to buy new clothes and a new belt. From the time I joined the health club until I lost the 50 pounds about 18 months passed. I entered more races and actually ran 10 miles without stopping to walk. I am continuing to exercise and now I am maintaining my weight, or maybe even building muscle. I don't really care to much about my weight, but I am excited that I can wear 29/32 Levi 501s comfortably, which is about what I wore in High School. So, I am eating better and exercising with positive results. I used to swim about an hour a day, but I now swimming 40 minutes every day and I haven't put any weight back on. |
